The Marathon dev team has just revealed that runners will have to wait a little longer for the next major update, which was previously scheduled to launch on September 22nd.
The September update will now be merged with the Symbiosis update, which goes live on December 8th, and will include some exciting new features to help address some of the main concerns raised by the community, including depth, variety, and improvements to progression.
If you were looking forward to the new content that was slated to arrive in September, fear not, it is still on the way, and will be accompanied now by some intriguing changes that will hopefully help Bungie find their footing with Marathon once and for all.
Originally announced in June, Marathon's September update showcased a permanent PvE mode, a refreshed Perimeter zone, and a brand-new Runner shell, all of which will now arrive with the Symbiosis update in December.
The Symbiosis update will also include an experimental team deathmatch mode, a firing range and social space, and improvements to the onboarding experience for new players—and that's just the beginning.
Marathon devs stated, "We’re also moving away from a strict seasonal schedule. Instead of tying major updates to fixed seasonal deadlines, we’re giving the team more flexibility to build, test, and improve features before they are released."
This is a pretty drastic pivot away from the game's original experience, as we're seeing a stronger focus on PvE come into play, while devs appear to be slowly inching away from seasonal content drops—which could ultimately result in higher-quality content overall.
