CD Projekt RED and Blizzard Entertainment have announced a new partnership bringing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to Battle.net, alongside a special crossover to Diablo 4. With Gamescom currently taking place in Germany and now BlizzCon right around the corner, there's a ton of news coming to both Diablo 4 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
It's been a whirlwind 24 hours so far for CD Projekt RED as the studio helped cap off the Opening Night Live showcase at Gamescom 2026. The studio had tons of announcements to share with fans, including a surprising Remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the first trailer for 2027's Songs of the Past expansion. As if that wasn't enough, CD Projekt RED also confirmed that the Remastered update won't cost anything to download in September and that the previous two Witcher 3 expansions are also free to download. Following all of that, CDPR also announces a major collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment.
In separate statements from both Blizzard Entertainment and CD Projekt RED, both companies announced a special partnership that will bring the newly announced Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered to Battle.net when it launches on September 29. CDPR's statement was a little more nostalgic, diving into the fandom of the company during the heights of Starcraft and the fact that the company was previously the official distributor of Blizzard products in Poland. Alongside a detailed history, the CDPR blog also confirmed that this news is only the start of the partnership, hinting at more surprises to share at BlizzCon 2026.
However, that wasn't everything announced. The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past expansion is also set to become available on the Battle.net launcher and, as a special bonus, players who pre-order it will unlock a Geralt of Rivia skin for Diablo 4, essentially allowing players to slay monsters as the famous Witcher in-game. For those who don't want to pre-order, CDPR confirmed the skin will unlock for any player that buys the expansion even after it launches, so there's no reason to fear missing out on pre-ordering prior to The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past expansion launch date. Naturally, all of the Gamescom announcements by CD Projekt RED have been met with praise from the community, who appreciate the player-first mentality that the company has continued to showcase. It isn't the first time that CDPR has gone down this route, which famously put out 16 free pieces of DLC for The Witcher 3 when it launched back in 2015. During a time when skins or other minor content was being charged, CDPR broke away from the mold.
In terms of Diablo 4, the current season is rapidly approaching its end, which seems to align perfectly with the return of BlizzCon after a 2-year hiatus. The massive Blizzard showcase is set to return on September 12 and, as expected, fans should expect to hear plenty of news on the company's major franchises and possibly new games as well. In addition to game news, Blizzard has also been teasing celebrity appearances and special musical performances by Yaosobi and LE SSERAFIM as well.
