Grand Theft Auto 6 was recently hit with a whopping eighth leak just as Cyberleek burned more than $1 million of their cryptocurrency to bite back at scam allegations.
I’m running out of ways to say that the past week has been an absolute doozy for GTA 6 fans but especially for Rockstar and Take-Two. As you no doubt know, hacker group Cyberleek randomly popped up on Tuesday to share gameplay footage from GTA 6, which they’ve continued to do pretty much every day.
We’ve seen tons of footage from GTA 6 over the past five days, which Take-Two has been trying to deal with and remove as quickly as possible. It’s not working that well, though, as an eighth leak was recently posted, one which Cyberleek promised would happen if the market value for their cryptocurrency reached three million.
Let’s start off with the eighth leak, which was teased at the end of the last footage like some weird MCU post-credits scene. It shows Jason in a strip club, as well as a new cutscene that suggests he’s actually able to make progress in the story, which has some worrying implications for how much could end up being shown.
What’s arguably more interesting than that, though, is how the leak came about. Cyberleek said the video would be released if the market value for their coin hit three million. After saying that, Cyberleek was shown burning 270,000 CYBERLEEK coins with a staggering value of over $1 million.
For those who don’t know, burning the coin means permanently getting rid of a certain amount of stock. That prevents the coin from all being sold at once (also known as a rug pull), while also making other coins more valuable.
Cyberleek even referenced this event in the eighth leak’s watermark that reads “To prove you wrong all dev tokens were just burned, now only collecting trading fees”. That last bit is a good reminder to anyone thinking Cyberleek is doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, as they’re still actively earning a lot of money through transaction fees.
While it’s true that Cyberleek can’t just sell all the coins at once and bolt with a million dollars, the coin’s value still relies on people trading it around, which obviously has a time limit with the GTA 6 leaks not being a forever thing. I didn't think I'd have to say this but I'd just be incredibly careful, especially considering the legality
