Solo Leveling is greatly expanding its lore with its newest release, called Solo Leveling: Karma. Produced by Netmarble Studio, Solo Leveling: Karma covers a new story created in collaboration with original writer, Chugong.
With the story of Solo Leveling Karma soon coming to light in 2026, we're anticipating an action-packed new arc following Jinwoo as he travels across the dimensional crack and defeats the Monarchs one by one. That said, the Monarchs are far from being Sung Jinwoo's only enemies. During the 27-Year War, Jinwoo also has to face his old allies and friends head-on. During the Tokyo Game Show, new gaming footage reveals Sung Jinwoo set up to fight against his mentor figure, Go Gun-Hee, a Hunter who was once supposed to be Korea's strongest but was nerfed due to his old age.
All of us Solo Leveling fans were extremely excited for September 17, 2026, as it promised new updates pertaining to Karma to us after a long wait. Given that Solo Leveling: Karma is the only big project that we are getting for this franchise in 2026, fans are incredibly excited for it. This video game, produced by Netmarble, is going to be the highlight of the year, with the anime currently nowhere to be seen and the movie not releasing anytime soon.
Solo Leveling was a big part of the Tokyo Gaming Show, which took place specifically between September 17 and September 21, 2026. During this event, not only did we get a new trailer for Solo Leveling: Karma, but we also saw a whole lot of new gaming footage. New Jinwoo abilities were unveiled, in addition to new playable characters. What really stood out to us was Jinwoo's high-octane battle against one of his closest and greatest allies, the former head of the Korean Hunter Association, Go Gun-Hee.
Go Gun-Hee is one of the most important side characters of Solo Leveling. He guides Jinwoo in the first few seasons of the series, and his death becomes a major catalyst for Jinwoo at the end of the International Guild Conference Arc. Go Gun-Hee's passing is actually a major reason that led Jinwoo down the path of undertaking the grueling challenge of the 27-Year Monarchs' War. In this new footage, specifically released on September 19, we see Sung Jinwoo face off against him. To be precise, this Go Gun-Hee that Jinwoo faces is not the real deal. This version of Go Gun-Hee in Solo Leveling Karma is a corrupted version that looks exactly like the real one, but has a dark aura, created through the abilities of the Monarch of Destruction, Antares.
Because Jinwoo is still far from his peak at the beginning of this journey, Go Gun-Hee's corrupted version will not be an easy challenge to overcome. Once the player manages to defeat this foe, Jinwoo will actually acquire him as a new ally, and the player will be able to use him in combat. This battle is definitely an interesting one, as it is not only physical but also psychological for Jinwoo, who is enduring his loneliest journey, with no friends or family, for 27 long years.
In the original storyline of Solo Leveling, Go Gun-Hee acted as the head of the Korean Hunter Association. In the anime, it was revealed that Go Gun-Hee is ranked as an S-Rank Hunter. Just having the title of an S-Rank Hunter is already massively impressive and proves his great strength. That said, as seen in Solo Leveling Season 2, there can be quite a massive gulf between a regular S-Rank Hunter and what is referred to as a National Level Hunter. The Ant King was able to easily decimate a multitude of S-Rank Hunters from Korea and Japan, but he was easily subdued by Jinwoo, who is comparable to a National Level Hunter by that point.
Go Gun-Hee technically could have been a National Level Hunter because, in the manhwa, it is stated that he possesses the Brightest Fragment of Brilliant Light. In that sense, he was chosen by the Rulers as their greatest human host. What held Go Gun-Hee back, however, was his age. As he stated himself, he is too old to bring out his true potential. Despite that, he is still referred to as above S-Rank. At full power, he would have been one of the greatest Hunters of all time, and before Jinwoo attains his godlike status, he would have definitely been a worthy rival to take on.
