When attacking the objective, landing on top of it is a surefire way to lose both soldiers and the helicopter. Landing on an offset point gives the pilot room for a stabilized approach, infantry can calmly dismount, secure your surroundings, organize, then bring all firepower to bear on the target instead of taking potshots from the air.
Sometimes, a parachute insertion is the only option, or the one your pilot of the day decided to use anyway. It gets real awkward when six other people parachute and you're left sitting in the back of the chopper because you didn't buy yourself a chute.
On top of planned events, parachutes are a literal life-saver when your helicopter comes under heavy fire, or in those weirdly common cases where the pilot decides to peace out and abandon the helo without warning.
