2026 was a great year for anime. Big hits like Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure made their return, and other exciting anime made their debut, with a lot more still to come. However, as things stand, 2027 will be even more exciting. 2027 will feature some of the biggest anime movies, and among them are the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to shonen.
Following the smashing success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle in 2025, the industry has taken notice, and more studios are going all out with high-level production quality, but more importantly, canon anime sequels instead of TV seasons for their big series. As things stand, 2027 is giving us three anime movies that will almost certainly hog all the spotlight. These anime movies are Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2, One Piece Film: God Valley, and Solo Leveling: Beyond the System. All these movies are set to compete for box office records and leave all competition in the dust.
2026 is approaching its end at a rapid pace, with the fall season now almost upon us. While this year was great for anime, we are far more excited for what's to come out of Japanese animation next year, in 2027. Already, some of the biggest projects have been announced to us, making it potentially the biggest year of the decade for anime content from the country.
Notably, we are waiting for three big hits to screen in theaters across the world. These three anime movies include Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2, the successor of 2025's biggest box office hit; One Piece Film: God Valley, the first of its kind for the franchise and a movie with massive potential; and finally, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a movie that could change the game for manhwa series and set a new standard for action anime.
Demon Slayer is known for its massive hits at the box office. The series had its first major hit in 2020 when Mugen Train was released and broke all records in Japan. The franchise shocked us all in 2025 when it returned with Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and went on to surpass $700 million at the global box office — a number never reached before by a Japanese movie.
Because of its success streak, we're all excited for its next release. Infinity Castle Part 2 will take over from where Part 1 left off, and new battles will be set up as humanity’s struggle against demons continues. Technically, we still don't have an official release date for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2. However, reports confirm the movie is indeed coming two years after the first Infinity Castle release, which makes Summer 2027 the perfect release date for it.
This movie, just like the rest of the Demon Slayer franchise, is handled by Ufotable Studio. As was the case with the previous releases, we're sure to see high-quality animation and incredible direction bringing the story of Gotouge's manga to life in a flashy style. If there is one movie that absolutely can't fail at the box office in 2027, it's definitely Infinity Castle Part 2, and it will definitely be the biggest release of the year.
One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time, with over 600 million copies in circulation at the moment. Despite its grand success, One Piece hasn't reached its full potential. That is because, for years, One Piece had a rather weak anime adaptation by Toei Animation with bad pacing and subpar animation.
