Solo Leveling’s breakthrough came in 2024, when studios Aniplex and A-1 Pictures finally brought the series to global audiences from Japan. Solo Leveling's TV anime was a smashing hit, and in 2025, its second season was even bigger.
Today, Solo Leveling stands as Crunchyroll's biggest anime series of all time. Since its Season 2 ended, we have long been waiting for the next project. Finally, at Anime Expo 2026, on July 5, we finally got confirmation of what's to come next for the franchise. Crunchyroll revealed that Solo Leveling's next project is not a TV anime instalment, but instead a theatrical movie release, likely inspired by Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle's crushing success at the box office in July 2025, which made it the biggest anime movie of all time and one that changed the industry as a whole.
Regardless, when Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, the new theatrical release, was announced, it was stated that its release date would be sometime in 2027. This was great news for fans who had already been waiting since 2025 to see the return of Sung Jinwoo. It must be said, however, that projected release dates are often inaccurate. Movies are often delayed because of production issues, and that could very well be the case for Solo Leveling.
At this time, official sources state that Solo Leveling is making a comeback sometime in 2027. As such, many fans anticipate seeing Solo Leveling: Beyond the System hit theaters in Japan in Summer 2027, before a global release a month or two later. We also have an investment report and previous comments by producers that seem to point to a delay for the movie as well. On June 9, 2026, D&C Media, the biggest investor in the Solo Leveling series, released its investment report. In it, it was stated that Solo Leveling Season 3 had a target date of 2027 to 2028. This might sound irrelevant, since we are discussing the movie instead of Season 3; however, early trailers for the movie marketed it as ‘Solo Leveling: Beyond The System Season 3’. While that has changed now, D&C Media simply based their reports on the old title.
