Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Remake announced as the Complete Edition releases on Steam with no game files

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is getting a full remake that will be released in 2027.

The news was announced via the Ubisoft blog, and specifies that the game will launch on PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC. It will feature 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, real-time weather, and shifting seasons.

In addition, the classic Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete Edition was released on Steam on August 25, but players were unable to play the game.

HoMM3 launched originally in 1999, and Ubisoft launched an HD Edition in 2015. The Steam release of the HD Edition lacked the game’s two expansions, and as such, most players recommended the Complete Edition GOG release, which included all content and had an HD mod available.

Now, HoMM3 Complete has launched on Steam for £8.99 and includes both the Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death expansions. But players who bought the title found that the game download did not actually include any game files.

“Well done Ubisoft! I think it’s your WORST premiere yet. Ubisoft literally FORGOT to include the game files,” wrote a Steam player in the game’s reviews. “Game itself weighs 23.49 KILOBYTES.” They go on to explain that the game files only include an executable that verifies the Steam branch.

Another player said, “I think we did a pretty good job so far… 23.49 KB of pure nostalgia. Best CMD prompt simulator of 2026. 10/10.”

The issue seems to be fixed now, and for a brief time, players were able to work around the problem by downloading the Horn of the Abyss mod, which is also available on Steam.
