Across the many series the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise has birthed, fans have been introduced to thousands of powerful Monster, Spell, and Trap cards. These tools have not only allowed the heroes to overcome obstacles and take down the villains trying to destroy their world, but have also given audiences a look at what cards may one day be printed for real-life play.
Because a large majority of the cards shown in the anime were designed to make the games feel as exciting and memorable as possible, several of them end up being extremely overpowered, and major alterations need to be made before bringing these cards to real life. Despite this, every once in a while, a card’s effect is so powerful that the idea of it ever being released is nothing more than a wild dream.
First mentioned by Yubel, one of the most iconic villains in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, Super Fusion God is a card so powerful that it has never actually been seen in the series. This Fusion Monster can only be summoned by merging creatures from Levels 1 to 12 by utilizing the Super Polymerization Spell. Its effects and abilities have never been revealed to the public, making it one of the most mysterious monsters in the series.
Nonetheless, Kazuki Takahashi, the late creator of the original manga, revealed that the idea behind this monster was to be as powerful as a singularity, a term often used to refer to the beginning of the universe. As such, it is not outlandish to assume that this monster would be extremely powerful, and potentially the strongest creature in the franchise.
One of the main traits that differentiates Yu-Gi-Oh from other popular TCGs is the fact that the game does not utilize a mana system. This means that as long as one meets the conditions needed to activate a card, they can do so. As such, the game has found other ways to balance the power of certain cards, such as forcing players to play Normal Spells only during their turns.
Spell Sanctuary, a tool used only by Kaiba, not only allows the user and the opponent to search for any Spell, an extremely powerful effect on its own, but also allows players to use Spells during the opponent’s turn. This gives players whose decks revolve around these powerful cards a major advantage, making their strategies several times more dangerous.
Over the years, the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG has banned several cards from play, largely due to how oppressive they are towards the opponent. One of the most common reasons for this treatment is cards that prevent the adversary from playing the game, either by removing the effects of their cards or preventing them from summoning.
Ivy Bind Castle, a card used by the sinister and cruel Yuri, takes this concept to a whole new level, as it not only negates the effects of any face-up cards on the field, but it also prevents the opponent from attacking. This card basically removes the adversary from play, giving complete control of the duel to the user. As long as they can tribute a Predaplant monster, the player who activated this overwhelmingly strong Spell is guaranteed to win.
