The Whispering Hillock begins during the Ladies of the Wood quest when Geralt is asked to help the people of Downwarren. After speaking with the village's ealdorman, you will be directed toward the Ancient Oak, where a voice leads Geralt to a spirit trapped beneath the tree. The Witcher 3 gives you several ways to deal with the spirit, with your final choice affecting the fate of Downwarren, the children, and Anna. This guide covers the full quest and its consequences.
During Ladies of the Wood, Geralt will be tasked with helping the people of Downwarren. After speaking with the ealdorman, a new objective marker will appear near the Ancient Oak.
Travel to the marked location and search the area. You will encounter several wolves as you approach the tree. Once you hear the mysterious voice coming from the hillock, the Whispering Hillock quest will be added to your quest log.
Follow the objective toward the base of the Ancient Oak. You will eventually find a cave entrance guarded by a Werewolf. Deal with the Werewolf and enter the cave.
Inside, follow the path through the flooded section until you reach the chamber containing the source of the evil. You will find a spirit trapped within the roots of the tree, and this is where the main choice of the quest begins. You can either agree to help free the spirit or refuse and work toward destroying it.
If you agree to help the spirit, you will need to collect three items for the ritual: a Raven Feather, the spirit's bones, and a black horse.
You may already have the Raven Feather from Ladies of the Wood. It can be obtained from the harpy nest where Geralt helps Johnny recover his voice, so you will not need to find another one if you already picked it up.
The spirit's bones are marked on your map. Follow the objective marker to the indicated area, where you will have to deal with a Water Hag. After defeating it, use your Witcher Senses to locate the nearby grave and interact with it to collect the bones.
