Baldur's Gate 3 will let you get pretty powerful by the end of the game, but try as you might, you can't be more powerful than the gods. Well, you sort of can with the Gale ending that sees you ascend to godhood, but that is at the very end of the game, so you can't exactly go around smiting your enemies. Some NPCs also have access to these super powerful spells, but they're almost always out of our hands.
Thankfully, the fact that they're in the game at all means that all modders have to do is put them in the player's list of available spells. Now, that's exactly what one modder has done with a 9th level spell, Power Word Ruin. PC players can now learn the spell and use it in-game, as they would any other spell.
"Power Word Ruin exists in the base game as Projectile_EPI_Disintegrate_GaleGod — a complete, tuned, fully voiced and localised 9th level spell built for the God-Gale epilogue," says the mod's author, JThug, on the Nexus Mods page.
The spell consists of three powerful beams of magic. According to the info in the game, that will equate to 30d6 + 120 force damage if the power of each beam is combined. That means you will deal between 150 and 300 damage with the spell.
The mod will give you a Power Word Ruin scroll, which can be cast by anyone, like any other scroll in the game. However, if you want to learn the spell yourself, you will need a mod that lets your character reach level 20. That is because the level cap in Baldur's Gate 3 only brings you up to 6th level spells, so everyone in the vanilla game will be too underleveled for the spell.
The only way I can think of to get anything like this by playing the game legitimately is to do a run as The Dark Urge and embrace Bhaal. This way, you can cast Power Word Kill once, which, as the name suggests, immediately kills most targets. This only works if the target has 100HP or fewer, so for anything above that, Ruin would be best.
This mod isn't on console yet, and it takes a while for PC mods to get console approval. We'll have to wait and see if this gets ported over in the future, but in the meantime, console players have plenty to mess around with.
