Binoculars are handy tools for scouting in STALKER 2, but more advanced variants do more than just help you see farther. The fancier binoculars you can find in the zone can help with target identification, making them perfect for figuring out which bad guys you should be shooting. All binoculars in STALKER 2 can be obtained for free, though some can also be bought from traders in the many safe havens all over the Zone.
You can buy a pair of simple binoculars for 2000 Coupons from Hamster, the trader in the starting town of Zelissya. You can buy it as soon as you scrounge up the money for it, though you may need to progress through the first few beginner quests before Hamster starts selling them to you.
As the first-ever pair of binoculars you can find, these are the most basic of binoculars you can find in the zone. They don't really do anything except give you a clearer view of things that are far away without being forced to equip something like a sniper rifle or a weapon with a high-magnification scope. They're nothing fancy, but they get the job done.
To use binoculars in STALKER 2, equip them from your inventory, then open your item wheel. Look for your equipped binoculars on the screen, then press the related button that appears.
This is the second type of binoculars in the game, and you can get one for free by going to the comms room at the very top of the Cement Factory northeast of Garbage. The location in question is inside the factory itself, which is occupied by Duty members. Head to the tallest point of the Cement Factory via the winding stairwell, then grab the Yastrub from the equipment table in front of the door.
As a direct upgrade to the regular binoculars, the Yastrub comes with a built-in entity detector and rangefinder. Viewing any NPC with the Yastrub will show a bracket around them, and you'll see the NPC's name too. This makes target identification much easier, and you can use the rangefinder to dial-in your long-range shots too.
The third type of binoculars is the Fighter, and while it functions mostly the same as the Yastrub, this one has a friend-or-foe detector that automatically recognizes if a targeted NPC is hostile or not. You can pick up a free Fighter binoculars by going to the Scorcher Technical Tunnel in Malachite (open the door using the code 1287975.
You can get another one from the tower near Yaniv station after you make enough progress through the main STALKER 2 story.
