Brand-New Skyrim Update Officially Confirmed for August 27

Brand-New Skyrim Update Officially Confirmed for August 27

A brand-new update will be released for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim on August 27, but it is not as alarming for the years-old game as the most recent update. Indeed, most Skyrim players may even feel that this update is negligible, save for a select few.

Skyrim recently released an update focused on the Creation Club, with developer Bethesda warning fans that the update could break mods on both it and Fallout 4. No doubt, fans who heard the warning appreciate it, as it allowed them to prepare for their mods to be broken, but anyone who missed out may have run into issues once the update was installed. Now, a second update is releasing, but it appears to just be for Skyrim specifically.

Bethesda is launching a new update on August 27, with it being a key hotfix (thus being released immediately instead of being scheduled) that addresses different issues on Xbox and PlayStation. For Xbox players, this hotfix will fix a recurring crash that happens when opening the map of Skyrim too much. For PlayStation users, this hotfix addresses a crash related to using the on-screen keyboard on the main menu, as well as an issue where the game showed the incorrect amount of Creations storage space. Of course, after the last update, some fans are understandably worried about their mods.

When asked specifically about load orders by Twitter user Aldric_Wolfbane, Bethesda responded that this update should not mess with anyone's load orders. Of course, "should" is not the same as "will," and sometimes strange things happen when it comes to video game updates—especially a video game as old as Skyrim. Fans should remain prepared to adjust their Skyrim Creation mods, but at the same time, it's not a confirmed issue and shouldn't even become one, unlike the last update.

Skyrim remains so popular (and is still receiving updates) because of its mod community, with Bethesda always supporting them as best it can. Skyrim's longevity is a testament to that, and hopefully that remains true with Bethesda's next major video game, The Elder Scrolls 6. Of course, it'll be quite some time before fans learn anything about the title, even if Bethesda and Xbox execs are attempting to keep it relevant right now. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently teased that the subtitle to The Elder Scrolls 6 was 8 letters, as but one example. Hopefully, it remains as mod-friendly as Skyrim, although there's no telling the future.
