Since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered's launch earlier this week, the debate around its lighting changes - whether it's overly brightened and washed out - has waged on. Now, CD Projekt Red has rolled out a patch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the game's PC Xbox Play Anywhere version, which makes "various lighting adjustments" among other things.
CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher 3 the patch's release on social media, noting the following changes:
There are a number of factors seemingly contributing to The Witcher 3 Remastered's apparently increased brightness. A main offender seems to be the Bloom setting, which you can turn off on PC but not on console - perhaps this update addresses that. Graphical flourishes like path tracing and HDR exacerbate the issue.
CD Projekt Red also said it was preparing a hotfix for the PC version relating to a save-game issue, and that it continues "investigating the issues you're reporting via our Technical Support portal". It thanked players for their patience, and for reporting issues they're having.
The Witcher 3 Remastered significantly refreshes the game, with a more-than-skin-deep visual refresh as well as many animation improvements, and notable gameplay and quality of life changes. What's more, it's free to everyone who already owns any version of the game. It's all being done to prepare for - remarkably - a third expansion for the game, called Songs of the Past, which is due to be released next year.
