Round Up: The Reviews For Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Are In

Capcom has already delivered a solid line up of games in 2026, and this week it adds to this with Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

This includes a Switch 2 version, and if you haven't already seen it, here's a quick sample of our Nintendo Life review. We said it was a superb samurai survival, awarding it nine out of ten stars.

"Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a successful revival of Capcom's samurai franchise that pushes its gameplay in an exciting new direction while still retaining its core identity. The slower, more deliberate combat feels great, especially when you manage several deflections in quick succession before slicing your foe in half. Glorious."

And here's what other critics thought about this new entry in the series:

RPG Site - 9/10: "In the best way, Way of the Sword feels like a golden era action movie, perfectly treading that line between pulse-pounding and emotionally evocative. Musashi is an all-timer of a hero that's immediately likable from the very first frame you see him, following in the footsteps of countless other Capcom protagonists."

Nintendo World Report - 9/10: "Given we’ve had a myriad of samurai games over the last five years I wasn’t entirely sure going into Onimusha: Way of the Sword what we could expect. I’m therefore very happy to report that this is one of the most fun AAA action games I’ve played in quite some time. Even better? The Switch 2 version met all my expectations and more."

Siliconera - 7/10: "Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a fine action game, but as a fan of the series it’s lacking. The absence of weapon movesets and expanded combos make every encounter feel too similar. The fundamentals are fine for the first 10 to 15 hours, but it goes on for too long without expanding combat options. With Capcom seemingly intent on resurrecting this series, I hope that there’s a way forward for more Onimusha games. I just hope it isn’t the way of the sword."

Eurogamer - 4/5: "It's the little things: the grimace Musashi makes when he's flung into a wall by an over-powered demon, the little sniff and brush of his nose he does when he's dubious, the single eyebrow raised at an unexpected development… it's almost uncanny. But I believe in this character; his monkey-ish charm, his cocky confidence, his humble belief in the right thing and that eponymous 'way of the sword' that defined his life and his teachings. I want DLC for Way of the Sword just to bask in more of that sumptuous cinematography and pitch perfect characterisation."
