Final Fantasy 11 Just Changed Forever

Final Fantasy 11 Just Changed Forever

Final Fantasy 11 has just changed forever with the introduction of changes to the game's free trial. The new adjustments, which were previewed back in August, are now officially live for Final Fantasy 11.

While Final Fantasy 14 has largely overshadowed Final Fantasy 11, the original MMORPG is still holding its own. It wasn't all that long ago that Square Enix considered shutting Final Fantasy 11 down, but since then, the game has seen a resurgence in popularity, to the point that some servers had to be closed to new characters and character transfers. These newly implemented changes will likely see even more players joining or revisiting the classic MMORPG.

On September 30, Final Fantasy 11 officially expanded its free trial, which could make it much more inviting to players. Previously, the Final Fantasy 11 free trial came with a fairly restrictive time limit of 14 days, and players could only reach level 50 before being blocked from further progression. Effective immediately, the time limit restriction has been completely done away with, allowing players to spend as many hours as they like in the game. Furthermore, the level cap has now changed from 50 to 75. This change will allow gamers to experience more of the high-level skills their jobs pick up later on, and access their full set of artifact armor. With Final Fantasy 11's job system, they'll also be able to utilize more subjob abilities, as their subjob will now be able to reach level 37 instead of 25.

Players who previously experienced the free trial are encouraged to return by Square Enix, with the same reduced restrictions now in effect. Those who previously reached the time limit or level cap can now progress as they see fit, up to level 75. However, there are still significant restrictions in place. Players on the free trial can only access the base six jobs and Bard, Beastmaster, Dark Knight, Paladin, Ranger, and Summoner. Players can hold a maximum of 100,000 gil, and only three characters can be played on the free trial.

While there are plenty of good reasons to upgrade to a paid account, this expansive free trial gives players enough content to potentially spend hundreds of hours in the game without spending a cent. Those who enjoy the experience and want more Final Fantasy MMORPG goodness might want to also consider checking out its newer sibling, as Final Fantasy 14 offers a very generous free trial of its own. Similar to FF11, Final Fantasy 14's free trial was expanded earlier in the year, giving players access all the way through the end of Shadowbringers, the game's third expansion, and level 80.
