Every Boss in Onimusha: Way of the Sword (& How to Beat Them)

Every Boss in Onimusha: Way of the Sword (& How to Beat Them)

There are 13 unique boss enemies in Onimusha: Way of the Sword (18 if you count altered and enhanced versions of some fights), and while some are fairly basic, others are fairly tough. All of them are encountered directly in the main story, so you won't have to worry about missing any hidden fights, and if you want to fully master each boss battle, you can fight them all again by visiting the training grounds. If you're looking for a preview of all the bosses you can fight in Onimusha, here's a complete list as well as some tips on how to beat each of them.

This guide contains spoilers for boss encounters and certain story beats.

Onimusha Way of the Sword Ganryu boss fight
Onimusha Way of the Sword Ganryu boss fight

Musashi's rival and a swordmaster in his own right — Ganryu is one of the main antagonists in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and he serves as the players' first real challenge, acting as the first boss in the Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Ganryu doesn't use any special tricks when fighting, but he does have some fast attacks that can catch some players off guard. Beating him is all about mastering the fundamentals of the game's combat system; focusing on defense and using his slow attacks as opportunities to use Issen will make quick work of him.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Daidara boss fight
Onimusha: Way of the Sword Daidara boss fight

Daidara is the first big Genma boss that players will fight in the campaign, and despite his imposing size and intimidating presence, he's actually pretty easy to fight. His attacks are slow and easy to read, but getting hit by Daidara is more punishing compared to Ganryu. As a Genma, this boss can consume the souls you've collected in your gauntlet, hampering your ability to use Oni Weapons. Also, Daidara can use unblockable attacks that must be deflected instead of parried.

As far as beating Daidara goes, it's all a matter of patience. If your souls keep getting sucked up, aim for his purple weakpoint when using Break Issen to recoup your losses.

At this point, every boss in the game gains the ability to siphon souls from you, so make sure to keep the Break Issen tip in mind at all times.

Byakues are large Genma that appear multiple times during the main campaign. They're much more beast-like than the usual Hitotsume foot soldiers, and their giant axes can chop huge chunks off your health bar if they connect. Beating a Byakue will always reward you with upgrade materials for your Gauntlet.
