Hunter x Hunter is one of the most iconic shonen series of all time. Originally created in 1998 by Yoshihiro Togashi, the series has gained a lot of traction and has become one of the most popular manga series in the world. To this day, it retains its popularity despite years of health-related issues plaguing Yoshihiro Togashi. Because of Togashi's health issues, the series is known to go on long and tedious hiatuses often, and it's gotten to a point where getting a new batch of chapters is a major reason for celebration in the fandom.
Togashi previously went on hiatus in December 2024. However, to the pleasant surprise of millions, he returned in June 2026 with 10 new chapters. Now, it's been officially confirmed that Togashi is going back on his break. On September 4, 20260, Shonen Jump revealed that the Hunter x Hunter series will depart the magazine after the release of Chapter 420 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41 on September 6, 2026. It is time to say farewell once more to Hunter x Hunter, but this time, we are hopeful to see it return before the end of the year.
Hunter x Hunter is known for its sensational storytelling. The story by Yoshihiro Togashi has a compelling cast of characters and a complex plot, keeping fans hooked and always coming back for more. While Hunter x Hunter is known for its brilliant storytelling, it is also known for constantly being on hiatus. Despite the hiatuses, Yoshihiro Togashi is always doing his utmost best to try and bring us fans more content every once in a while, at the very least. Hunter x Hunter's last major hiatus took place after the release of Hunter x Hunter Chapter 410, on December 8, 2024, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #2. Following the release of that chapter, it took Togashi about a year and a half to make a return.
On June 28, 2026, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #31, Togashi officially returned with HxH Chapter 411. Since then, we have been getting weekly releases in Weekly Shonen Jump to enjoy. It has been almost 10 weeks since then, which means the release of Chapter 420 is right around the corner. With that in mind, many fans had hoped that Hunter x Hunter would continue past Chapter 420 and that this batch would exceed 10 chapters. Unfortunately, Shueisha confirmed on September 4 that Hunter x Hunter Chapter 420, which is scheduled for release on September 6, 2026, in WSJ Issue #41, will be the last of the batch. In other words, Hunter x Hunter is officially heading back on its indefinite hiatus, and it's time to say our farewells to this series.
It's definitely unfortunate to see Hunter x Hunter go back on hiatus after such a short-lived return. While the series is indeed going back on hiatus following chapter 420, Yoshihiro Togashi is working hard to bring us more chapters. The legendary mangaka is somewhat active on his X social media platform (@Un4v5s8bgsVk9Xp). On there, he is often giving us new updates, and because of that, we know where he is in terms of chapter progress.
Based on his most recent updates, we can confirm that Togashi has already concluded work on 3 more chapters, which means content up until chapter 423 is already done and ready to be published. We also know that he is actively working on the other chapters. Togashi recently stated that he completed chapters up to 430 to varying degrees. This is a great sign and shows progress that we haven't seen in the last few years. With how fast Togashi is progressing this year, we could see him conclude the next batch of chapters spanning from chapters 421 to 430 in the next couple of months.
It must also be said that, previously, Togashi confirmed his short-term target goals in regard to the manga. He has stated that he plans to wrap up, at the very least, 50 chapters. This is huge and would bring the HxH story to chapter 460 by the time this milestone is reached.
