Following the news that Burger King was ending their Dragon Ball collaboration prematurely, multiple BK employees have come out to reveal that the fast food chain was forced to kill the collab early due to a product recall. Burger King's Dragon Ball rollout has been messy in the United States, to say the least, and the recall brings the collaboration to a bitter end.
GameRant reached out to a representative at Burger King Corporation, who was able to confirm that the collaboration has indeed ended. A California Burger King employee revealed that their manager told them that this was a lie to cover up low stock as to not upset customers. While it's possible this could be true for the West Coast, employees from New England BK branches have confirmed the product recall and have been forced to remove all Dragon Ball items from their menu.
According to multiple different Burger King employees from the East Coast region, the center plate on Base Vegeta's armor is a choking hazard that can actually be dislodged. Unlike Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta's armor, which is painted on, Base Vegeta has an extra panel in the center of the figure to replicate the Battle Armor's texture. While GameRant was not able to successfully remove the armor plate from Vegeta's chest, we were able to confirm that it is a separate piece, which – pending potential build errors – can fall out, risking being swallowed by a child.
Due to the nature of the recall, Burger King stores have been forced to remove every Dragon Ball item off their menu, not just the toys. Any leftover Dragon Ball Super crowns and Goku cups will likely be disposed of, but feel free to ask your local BK locations if they have any leftover stock. Do not expect to be able to purchase Dragon Ball toys at Burger King locations anymore, however. With the recall, second-hand prices will likely skyrocket even higher than they're currently sitting.
Burger King's Dragon Ball recall follows availability issues across the country. Several customers online have shared that their local Burger King locations never even received Dragon Ball items, while other stores began running out of stock as early as two weeks. Connecticut and Massachusetts branches rapidly ran out of the Super Saiyan Sauce before the Goku Cups joined them. Some customers even reported their local Burger Kings running out of toys days before the official recall.
Reception to the Burger King x Dragon Ball crossover in the United States has been mostly negative. Unlike other countries, there has been barely any marketing in America. Not just that, US stores are missing out on exclusive items available at international Burger Kings, like shirts, Super Saiyan Blue crowns, and Dragon Ball-themed burgers, not just chicken nuggets with a sauce. Burger King's next collaboration won't be until late October with Hello Kitty, leaving a large gap in the fast food chain's toy offering now that Dragon Ball is out of the picture for good.
