How to Kill Jammer (Seeder) Enemies in Gears of War E-Day

How to Kill Jammer (Seeder) Enemies in Gears of War E-Day

Known in previous games in the series as 'Seeders,' the mortar-firing, radio-jamming Locust units in Gears of War: E-Day are referred to as Jammers for the most part. Just as annoying as they were in previous entries, but without the Hammer of Dawn to help you take them down, they can cause real problems in your fight to push back the Locust horde. Not only is their mortar fire incredibly damaging and annoying, but they only have one weak spot that is rarely on display. In this guide, I'll explain how to beat Jammer or Seeder enemies easily in Gears of War: E-Day.

The only way to deal damage to Jammers (or Seeders) in Gears of War: E-Day, is to wait for their weak spot to be shown, which is on their head at the other end of their body to the one that fires out the mortar strikes.

The problem is, Jammers rarely actually rear their ugly heads as they're busy firing our mortars. The only way to draw a Seeder's head out of the ground is to get up close to them. I've found that as I've got within a few meters of a Jammer, they'll burrow away into the ground and pop their head out to try and catch me in their jaws.

At this point, you'll want to use either a Longshot or some sort of explosive weapon like Frag Grenades or a Gut Puncher to fire at the head and mouth of the Seeder. It's likely that you won't be able to deal enough damage to the Jammer to kill it the first time it pops its head out of the ground, so then you'll need to wait for it to stick its head out of the ground again after a mortar barrage.

The easiest way to avoid the mortar barrages is to find cover. However, there isn't always cover to stand under when you're fighting one of these. As such, I found that sprinting and staying on the move while running was the best way to avoid the mortar barrage. If you're confident in your aiming, you can also hunker down behind some cover and shoot the mortar shells as they're heading towards you, but as they can take a few shots to go down and the mortar fire is quite relentless, this doesn't always work.

After the Jammer stops firing mortar rounds, run back up close and circle it. This should be enough to trigger it to drop back underground and reveal its head again, giving you the opportunity to fire into its mouth and face and finish it off.

While its attacks aren't necessarily hard to avoid, the fact that the Jammer only rarely pokes its head out of the ground makes it more a battle of stamina than anything else. But getting up close is the proven method I've found to get it to reveal its weak spot and let you deal damage.
