The Xbox Game Pass library has expanded yet again, this time with the addition of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The day-one title is the service's sixth new arrival in September 2026 and the 140th Xbox Game Pass release since the beginning of the year.
The latest title from the award-winning developer Jagex, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is an open-world survival crafting game set in the same universe as the British studio's long-running MMORPG. Players explore the continent of Ashenfall alone or in groups of up to four, gathering resources, building bases, crafting gear, leveling skills, completing quests, and learning magic while preparing to battle increasingly dangerous creatures and, eventually, the Dragon Queen. The spin-off thus presents a different kind of grind, all the while retaining familiar RuneScape elements, ranging from lore to "skilling."
RuneScape: Dragonwilds' early access phase officially ended on September 15, after exactly 17 months to the day. Coinciding with its 1.0 launch, the open-world survival crafting RPG has also joined the Xbox Game Pass catalog on day one, debuting at 9 a.m. PDT / 12 p.m. EDT / 6 p.m. CEST. The co-op RuneScape spin-off also qualifies as a day-one title on account of its Series X/S version being brand-new.
Although day-one releases are typically restricted to the two most expensive tiers of Microsoft's subscription service, RuneScape: Dragonwilds' Xbox Game Pass debut also extends to the XGP Premium library. Xbox gamers are not the only ones getting subscription access on release day, as Jagex's latest title also had a day-and-date launch on PS Plus. RuneScape: Dragonwilds supports full cross-platform multiplayer across the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, so the extra reach from subscription services will potentially benefit everyone, making it easier to find people to play with at a moment's notice.

Dragonwilds officially closes out the first September 2026 wave of Xbox Game Pass releases. Microsoft's recent cadence makes today, September 15, the strongest candidate for a Wave 2 Xbox Game Pass announcement. The company has historically favored roughly 9 a.m. ET for its Tuesday lineup reveals, but it has occasionally published them later in the day, as it did with its most recent announcement on September 2.
