Battlizers have been a major part of the Power Rangers franchise ever since Andros received the first one in Power Rangers in Space. While the Rangers already have access to powerful Morphers, weapons, and Zords, Battlizers take things a step further by giving the Red Ranger an armored form designed to make them an even bigger threat on the battlefield. Although Battlizers aren't always the strongest form for a Ranger, they have consistently provided some of the franchise's biggest power boosts.
With so many Battlizers across the franchise, not all are created equal. Some have impressive abilities but rarely face an opponent strong enough to demonstrate them, while others immediately prove their worth against Power Rangers villains. These upgrades have ranged from heavily armored suits to mystical transformations, but considering their abilities, demonstrated feats, durability, versatility, and how they fit within their Ranger teams, some Power Rangers Battlizers are far more powerful than others.
Power Rangers in Space established what the Battlizer would eventually become, and it deserves a place on this list simply for how it changed the franchise. Andros receives the Red Battlized Armor in In Space, quickly gaining a heavily armored body, a winged backpack, flight capabilities, missiles, and a protective energy field. It immediately turns Andros into a considerably more powerful combatant, and its greatest strength lies in its versatility.
Andros can fight on the ground while benefiting from enhanced protection and offensive weaponry, then take to the air when necessary. He even uses the Battlizer to fly toward Astronema's fortress later on in the season. However, it has a big problem that ultimately lands it at the bottom of this list: while the armor is impressive for its era, its power is eventually exposed as limited. Andros' Battlizer was ultimately overwhelmed by Ecliptor and Darkonda during the In Space finale. Still, without this form, the Battlizers that followed might never have existed.
Shane Clarke's Tri-Battlized Armor is one of the most versatile in the franchise because it effectively gives the Red Wind Ranger two different forms for different types of combat. The Ninja Storm Battlizer can morph into Ground Mode and Flight Mode: Ground Mode boosts Shane's strength and speed while surrounding him with armor that makes him much more effective in close-quarters combat. Flight Mode adds a hawk-themed armor configuration that gives him tremendous aerial mobility, along with a sword and bracer.
Flight Mode also allows Shane access to the devastating Ultra Laser attack, which unleashes an enormous energy blast. Shane uses the Battlizer to defeat Vexacus, one of the more dangerous villains he faces. With only two modes, it is unclear where the "Tri" in Tri-Battlized comes from, but the ability to switch between two combat styles gives Shane considerably more flexibility than many earlier Battlizers. Unfortunately, versatility isn't everything. Other Battlizers are just stronger when it comes to raw power.
Similar to Shane’s Tri-Battlized armor, the S.P.D. Battlizer offers two distinct configurations. The Battlizer was developed by Kat Manx and integrated into R.I.C. and boasts both Cyber Mode and Sonic Mode. Cyber Mode enhances Jack Landors' strength, agility, and fighting ability while giving him an energy sword and additional armor. Sonic Mode goes even further by transforming R.I.C into part of Jack's armor, granting him a rocket pack, siren blasters, flight, and a powerful flaming-sword finisher.
It's an excellent example of a Battlizer that isn't merely "the Red Ranger, but stronger." It gives Jack an entire new combat system; he can use Cyber Mode for fast, close-quarters combat before switching to Sonic Mode when he needs greater firepower and mobility. Still, Cyber Mode gives Jack minimal additional armor and with S.P.D.'s later S.W.A.T. Mode, this Battlizer was hardly used. Plus, Jack isn’t the only one to use the Battlizer in Power Rangers, as Sky briefly becomes the Red Ranger and is given access to it.
