An incredibly rare replica of Simon’s CTRV from Silent Hill: Townfall is being sold on eBay, which has caused some backlash since only 100 were made and gifted to influencers.
I probably don’t need to tell you that influencers often get some of the coolest gifts for video game launches. Don’t get me wrong, the press does receive some awesome stuff too, but influencers almost always seem to get unique and highly sought-after items for some of the biggest games.
There are a lot of examples of this, but one of the coolest in recent memory is a replica of Simon’s CTRV from Silent Hill Townfall. Only 100 of these were ever made, and select lucky influencers were able to get their hands on a nice piece of gaming history. Well, one unknown person has decided they’d rather have the high asking price it’s currently going for on eBay.
As pointed out by IGN senior video producer Jesse Gomez on Twitter, a listing for the awesome Silent Hill Townfall CRTV recently popped up on eBay. The listing, which makes it clear they don’t really care for Silent Hill by calling it “Silenthill”, comes from an unknown user who simply said in the description that “I do not need it”.
The listing was originally asking for $325 for the CRTV, but it’s ballooned up to more than $800 as of the time of writing. With six days left to go on an incredibly rare item, it’s very likely that the influencer will end up getting more than $1,000 for it, which is a little wild considering they were one of 100 lucky people who were sent it as a gift.
A bit of insider baseball here, but it’s generally considered poor form to sell on things you're gifted. I hope that’s kind of obvious though, since it’s just bad manners.
As you can probably imagine, the listing is pretty divisive over on Twitter. Jesse Gomez’s post called it out by saying, “Get that social post done and then get paid”, while Twitter user IAmLunarLizzy said it made them feel “sick to my stomach” since there are content creators out there who would have loved to receive it instead of “opportunistic greedy people”.
While I do get that the influencer might not have been interested in Silent Hill and still received the CRTV, there’s surely a better way to pass it off to more interested fans. Or hell, even send it back to be passed on to another content creator. Making money off it, and so much at that, is just a little slimy.
