Capcom is bringing the new entry in the Monster Hunter series to the Switch 2 this December, but some fans have also been calling for Monster Hunter World.

During the Switch generation, Capcom released Monster Hunter Rise (and other Monster Hunter titles) on Nintendo's hardware, but World was only accessible on consoles via PlayStation and Xbox.

According to Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, the "main challenge" is the game engine, meaning the team would have to "completely remake" the title. Here's what he had to say about this at the Tokyo Game Show during a chat with The Gamer

”The main challenge is, the engine is completely different for Monster Hunter World. From Monster Hunter Rise onwards, we’ve been using our own RE Engine. That engine change completely changes the conversation, regardless of performance or machine power. We’d have to completely remake the game from the ground up.”

Monster Hunter World runs on a modified version of the older engine MT Framework, whereas Capcom's new releases are now powered by the RE Engine. This includes the Switch 2 games Street Fighter 6, Pragmata, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and the Resident Evil titles (including Requiem),

Although this Switch 2 port has seemingly been ruled out, Hunters can still dive into Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo's new hybrid hardware this November. The Switch 2 version includes cross-play, and the expansion has also been confirmed for this platform.
