In case you missed it, today saw the arrival of a new PS5 system software update, and one of the more interesting additions is the Community Activity widget for the console's Welcome page.
Basically, it gives you a small glimpse at what is trending on Sony's machine, providing a little bit of insight as to what the general public is playing.
You can use the widget in two ways. There's the Trending Now tab, which shows PS5 games and modes that are "surging in popularity right now", and there's also a Top 10 tab, presenting the current week's most popular titles.
While this doesn't provide sales numbers or any other hard stats to latch onto, it does shine a light on what games are actually in the zeitgeist in your area, so it's pretty interesting.
Let's take a look at what's showing for me based on a UK account.
Under Trending Now, I see the following:
So, nothing too unexpected in these lists, and without player numbers it's difficult to understand what it all really means.
However, I wasn't expecting Teardown to feature twice in Trending Now, and the way social media talks, I wasn't expecting to see Skate in the Top 10 most played games of the week either. But that's why this widget is quite interesting.
