What Hunts the Night is a quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker where Coen faces off against an abomination created by Brencis to hunt down the Manumits. After investigating the missing scouts in Where Loyalty Lies, Coen has to bring back the clues he has discovered from the now-dead scout to Crake, the leader of the rebels.
After learning about the clue “Teotim,” Crake immediately understands that the scout was pointing towards St. Teotim’s, a church found in the Middens area of Svartrau City. However, before heading there, Crake has one burning question: was Layos responsible for the scouts’ deaths?
After learning about what happened to the scouts, Crake will ask Coen whether Layos was responsible for what happened. The clue about Layos’s guilt can be found in the form of a letter named “Orders: Middens,” which you can loot off one of the soldiers who attack you in the courtyard at the end of the Where Loyalty Lies quest.
If you have the letter when reporting back to Crake, you have two options when he asks you about Layos’s responsibility:
Regardless of which option you choose, Crake will kill Layos. If you say he is an informant, Crake will justify this by saying that he’s a huge liability who needs to be put down to protect the others. If you say he is innocent, Crake will say that the absence of proof does not prove innocence, and for the safety of the entire rebellion, he needs to be put down.
