Apple introduced new versions of the standard and Ultra Apple Watch at the Surprise and Shine event last week. Both are now up for preorder, with a release date of September 18 (that’s this Friday). However, Amazon is offering a preorder discount on these devices. You can save $9 on an Apple Watch Series 12 or $19 on an Apple Watch Ultra 4. These aren’t huge discounts, but if you were planning on buying one at launch anyway, you might as well save a few bucks, right?
The deal is available on the 42mm Apple Watch Series 12, on both GPS and Cellular models. The Series 12 offers everything found in previous models, plus what Apple is calling “the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable.” It also has 24-hour battery life with normal use, and you can get up to 12 hours of use on a 15-minute fast-charge.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 is a more rugged device that’s designed for workout enthusiasts and outdoorsy types. This one only comes in one size (49mm) and it always has both GPS and cellular connectivity built in. It’s designed to track all sorts of fitness, from hiking in the wilderness to triathlons, from strength training to mountain biking.
The Ultra 4 is said to have “multi-day” battery life, with up to 45 hours of “Max Extended Workout” tracking. It also features fast-charge technology that gets you up to 18 hours of use in just 15 minutes.
All of these models also feature one of the coolest new technologies Apple has introduced this year: audio intelligence. When enabled, this can transcribe the last 15 seconds of audio it detected, letting you catch up if you miss something someone says. It can also summarize conversations, meetings, or lectures using Siri Recap.
These are iterative upgrades, but Apple Watches have gotten relatively iterative upgrades across every generation. And since most people don't buy a new one each year, the upgrades add up over time.
As for the deal on these upcoming Apple Watch models, they're pretty minor discounts, percentage-wise. But these watches aren’t even out yet, so it’s somewhat surprising to find any discount, anywhere. If you were planning to buy one of these new Apple Watches anyway, you might as well get it at Amazon and save $9 or $19.
