I'm not here to argue about the phenomenon that GTA 6 is being seen as, is, and probably will continue to be for the next few years. However, as someone who doesn't care that much about the franchise and prefers to stick with my JRPGs, I wager there are some of you out there sharing this same idea with me.
Thinking about this, I concocted this list for those who want a refuge, a sanctuary from Jason's massive biceps and Lucia's godmade Latina thighs, in a colorful, cozy, and sometimes plot twist-filled JRPGs world. Some games will be released before GTA, and some after it, with probably more release announcements to come.
I'll be the first to say I have reservations about games made by FuRyu. I don't want to generalize everything, but despite liking Trinity Trigger, I had a torturous experience with The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered and a not-so-good one with Reynatis. Still, I think it's worth trying new titles, even more so if they have a demo like Crymelight.
Crymelight is an upcoming roguelike based on Alice in Wonderland. We keep finding new cards and, in a poker-style manner, combine them to strengthen the protagonist, Alice. Being a roguelike, everything is random and made to promote replayability, so if that's your cup of tea (party), it's a good take. Crymelight is a sequel to Crystar and Crymachina and retains that impeccable artistic look.
I know that a lot of people frown upon mobile games, but let me tell you that Another Eden was one of those that felt premium, even with gacha elements. And well, if you've always wanted to play another JRPG with a script by Masato Kato, responsible for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, but never had an appreciation for mobile games, now it's the best time with the upcoming Another Eden Begins.
Another Eden Begins is the offline mode version of the game, with a beginning, middle, and end campaign, and adapted features. The JRPG features turn-based battles that favor a well-balanced team composition, which is easy to do with 18 recruitable characters. The narrative involves time travel, and just like Kato's old games, you can only see all 10 endings if you take advantage of the New Game+ system, which promotes new playthroughs of the game.
