In a completely shocking twist that almost nobody saw coming, Destiny 2 developer Bungie has announced that it's changed its mind on the game's sunsetting, and is instead returning to the game in an attempt to go about "restoring important parts" of the game's history that can no longer be played these days.
Yes, Bungie has finally smashed the glass and has been doing something that fans have wanted for years. Announced in a new video published by Bungie, and explained in a blog post, the studio will be completely unvaulting every piece of Destiny 2 content it's ever vaulted in the past, essentially making Destiny 2 a complete experience for veterans to play and newcomers to try out for the first time.
Unlike something like Fortnite, Bungie has vaulted significant chunks of the game over its lifespan, such as the base campaign for Destiny 2 titled The Red War. It also includes the Year 1 expansions Curse of Osiris and Warmind, as well as the Forsaken campaign. This means huge chunks of Destiny 2 will be coming back for one final hurrah, a change that is sure to excite even the most jaded Destiny 2 player.
Unfortunately, Bungie doesn't give us a specific timeframe for when it's going to actually do this, as it says that it need to do a lot of work to make sure that the content that has been vaulted will actually integrate with the current Destiny 2 we already have. However, to top it all off, Bungie then goes on to explain that this is the first step to "lay the foundation for how we reforge into new stories and games."
That's right. While we didn't get official confirmation of anything as massive as Destiny 3, it has been pretty much confirmed that Bungie will return to the Destiny franchise in the future, once it has finished turning Destiny 2 into a complete package that people can jump in and enjoy. It's great news for those that thought the studio's laser focus on Marathon meant the death of the series.
