For better or for worse, September 2026 has marked the end of an era for the Halo franchise, as most of Halo Studios, formerly known as 343 Industries, staff were laid off and management of the Halo franchise was transferred over to Activision, with a few staff remaining at HS to maintain Halo multiplayer servers.
To many gamers, this sudden announcement was not at all surprising, as Halo Studios has had a rocky track record with maintaining the Halo franchise following Bungie's departure, with HS' latest game, Halo: Campaign Evolved, selling well below investor expectations despite launching on both Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
In light of Halo Studios' effective shuttering, here's a look back at and ranking of every Halo game HS has ever developed, ranked by their campaign and multiplayer qualities, replay value, and overall fun factor.
Windows 10 Windows Mixed Reality headset
Easily the worst game 343 Industries ever developed is also one most Halo fans have likely never heard of or even played due to it only being available on the now discontinued Windows Mixed Reality virtual reality headset, with that game being Halo Recruit.
Halo Recruit is the first and so far only VR game in the franchise, but it's not anything really special like the Star Wars VR games, as it's pretty much just a 3D photo gallery of Grunts, Jackals, and Elites from Jul 'Mdama's Covenant remnant and a brief shooting gallery against flat Covenant-themed targets.
In fact, Halo Recruit can be finished in a matter of five minutes, making it a rather pointless game to buy, with arguably its only unique aspect being that it saw Tim Dadabo return to voice 343 Guilty Spark, who guides players through the game and details information regarding the aforementioned Covenant species.
