DLSS 5, Nvidia’s new AI-powered tech that supposedly gives video game characters a hyperrealistic look, has been leaked, and the results are great—if you’re looking for some uncanny valley-sponsored laughs, that is.
When Nvidia first unveiled DLSS 5, gamers immediately took social media by storm to mercilessly mock the tech’s supposedly spectacular capabilities. Out of nowhere, we’d be seeing DLSS 5 ON/OFF comparisons, akin to the famous RTX ON/OFF ones. The difference was that players didn’t have actual access to DLSS 5. They just created Photoshop montages of ridiculous-looking versions of beloved characters in a joking attempt at foreseeing the “amazing” future Nvidia had in store for us, and they were mostly right.
But now players have access to the real thing, and, well, it’s quite something. One of the most egregious examples is that of Jesse from Control, which you can now supposedly turn into a hyperrealistic-looking human
And she looks hyperrealistic, but in the same sense that Max did in the original Max Payne…from back in ’01.
Definitely not the “coming full circle” that Remedy deserved. Not only that, but even though I haven’t tested it, modders all across the board are complaining that DLSS 5 consistently causes a performance hit of at least 50% in all games, even on top-of-the-line hardware.
And, sorry to break it to you, but chances are that your faves have been affected as well. Just look at how Nvidia’s tech massacred our boy Cloud.
And if you think that this might at least prove useful for those who wish games could be sexier, and bring anime waifus to the real world, well, that better not be their final fantasy.
After a lot of suffering through ridiculous harassment campaigns and leaks, Rockstar devs finally thought they could catch their breath as GTA 6’s gameplay teaser wowed the world. That lasted just a few hours, though, as they now have brand new nightmares to look at.
