Rockstar Games has reiterated that GTA 6’s map is double the size of Grand Theft Auto 5’s map, and they can’t hold your hand around every part.
With the calendar getting closer and closer to November 19, Rockstar Games has continued to pull back the curtain on all things Grand Theft Auto 6. We’ve had an extended look from Netflix, and now a lengthy preview from Game Informer.
In both of those, the Grand Theft Auto developers have been asked about the state of Leonida and what it has in store for fans. Twice now they’ve said that the map is around twice the size of Los Santos and Blaine County in GTA 5.
Speaking to Game Informer, Rockstar’s Aaron Garbut said it is the largest map they’ve ever created “by some degree,” and they will help you explore most of it, but not every corner.
“Part of the job of he game’s story is to bring the player around the map in a way that feels authentic and interesting,” Rockstar’s Senior Vice President of Narrative, Rupert Humphries, added.
“We don’t have time to take you everywhere, but we want you to be able to explore and get a feel for most the places, cultures, and vibes.”
Garbut noted that “this new world is different” and that the developers were “obsessed about every part” in making it a “cohesive whole” setting for players.
While Vice City will play the role of Miami, and the Everglades are represented by Grassrivers, some big parts of Florida’s actual landscape probably won’t make the cut – notably Disney World, Universal Studios, and NASA’s space coast.
