The final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, is officially launching on all major platforms on April 8, 2027. It’s going to be pretty monumental, to say the least, as we’re finally building up toward not just the conclusion of these ambitious reimaginings, but the big answer to the question of whether or not a certain major moment from the original will be altered.
Before we can get to this pivotal moment, though, we’re going to need to find a way to fit this final, gargantuan adventure on our storage drives. In an interview with Video Games Chronicle, the game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, announced its storage requirements, and immediately noted that this revelation (ba-dum tish) is probably going to stir up a little bit of vitriol.
"Things are still getting worked out, but it’s probably going to be around 200GB of game," Hamaguchi said. "I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent."
I hope you’ve already got some space partitioned on your SSD, because Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is going to require some serious digital real estate.
For reference, Revelations’ predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, takes up varying amounts of space depending on the platform you play it on: 91GB on Switch 2, 145GB on PS5, 169GB on Xbox Series, and 155GB on PC. That’s actually a big reason I haven’t installed Rebirth on my own PC yet, because I’m terrified of the massive burden of space it presents.
The idea that Revelation will take up even more space on a storage drive than Rebirth is downright daunting. It’s that massive size that likely plays into the decision to require a digital download even if you purchase the physical version of the game.
