Demon Slayer has become one of the most iconic series to have ever come out of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump. Originally created by Gotouge, Demon Slayer took the world by storm when it was adapted into a TV anime by Ufotable Studio.
Demon Slayer's breakthrough came with its first movie, Mugen Train, which was officially released in 2020. More recently, the release of Infinity Castle propelled it to even greater heights, and it has since been breaking records consistently. On July 28, 2026, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle finally received its streaming release, and one day later, on July 29, the physical DVD dropped. Since then, the series has been doing quite impressive numbers and has already become one of the best-selling DVDs in Japan of all time. With this big success, Demon Slayer holds the top three best-selling DVDs with the contribution of both the Mugen Train and the Infinity Castle. Demon Slayer's reign is still far from over, with two more movies to come that we are sure are going to cement its complete domination.
It's no secret that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza's Return has been a global success. The movie first debuted in July 2025 in Japan, and it has since become one of the most successful endeavors of Ufotable Studio. In fact, Infinity Castle was a massive hit and brought in so much money that it remained in theaters for almost a whole year. That is quite unheard of, as most movies leave theaters after about 2 months. Finally, after a long and excruciating wait, Demon Slayer was removed from theaters in April 2026 and officially brought to streaming platforms and physical releases in late July 2026, over a year after the movie's initial release in theaters.
With the physical DVD release of Demon Slayer officially out, we were all expecting amazing sales for its first week, but the numbers surpassed all expectations. It has been revealed that Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1's DVD sales dominated the charts and held the first and second spots with its two variants. This was all revealed on August 6, 2026, by Oricon News, one of the biggest news outlets in Japan, covering breaking information on anime, manga, voice actors, and more. Exact sales figures for Demon Slayer's DVD haven't yet been revealed, but obviously the numbers must be staggering for it to hold the top two spots.
It's no surprise to see Demon Slayer dominate upon its release with Infinity Castle's DVDs. After the massive success of the movie in theaters, it only made sense for the DVDs to sell just as well. What's more shocking, however, is that when it comes to all-time sales, the series as a whole has a major edge over any other manga, anime, or movie. It was also revealed via Oricon News on August 6, 2026, that the current top three best-selling DVDs of all time in Japan are all held up by the Demon Slayer franchise. The first two spots are currently taken by the DVD variants of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, a successful 2020 movie hit. The third place currently belongs to Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle's DVD.
Of course, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle still has a long way to go, and more sales are coming in every day. In a few weeks or months, it could even surpass Mugen Train in sales. Either way, it's massively impressive for one franchise to hold so many records, not only at the box office, where it has cemented its domination over the top two spots, but also in DVD sales. These sales are only going to grow once Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’s DVD gets an international release. Right now, it’s only available in Japan, but that should change in the next couple of months, although no release dates have been confirmed.
