A pretty rancid week for celebrities somehow just got even worse. Following the announcements of the deaths of both Bonnie Tyler and Tim Curry, it has now been announced that legendary Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen has also sadly passed away aged 85.
First reported by TMZ, the voice actor's agents have explained that Cullen passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday surrounded by his family, though a cause of death has not yet been revealed.
"Peter Cullen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family — and held in the hearts of his many friends and countless fans worldwide. His family asks that you honor his remarkable legacy by serving your communities and leading others with compassion, integrity, and loyalty and always remember 'be strong enough to be gentle.'"
Even if you've never heard of Peter Cullen's name, there's almost zero chance that his voice hasn't reached your ears at some point. That's how much of an impact he's had on the childhoods of so many. His most famous role is undoubtedly Optimus Voice, who he has voiced for four whole decades, ranging from the Transformers cartoon back in the 80s, to Optimus Prime's addition to Fortnite.
Even outside of Optimus Prime, Cullen lent his voice to so many other iconic characters, such as Eeyore from Winne the Pooh, as well as the vocal effects for The Predator in the movie of the same name, as well as Alien vs Predator: Evolution.
Cullen's voice was one that everyone has heard in their lies, and we've lost yet another industry legend in a week that has been absolutely brutal for celebrities that have entertained us for decades. Sadly, our Optimus Prime is now gone too, but Cullen's legacy will undoubtedly live on in the characters he's helped shape over the years.
