Pokemon has had some pretty outlandish merchandise over the years, ranging from edible items like ramen and soup, all the way up to hygiene products like actual shampoo. Then you start getting into the more expensive stuff like clothing and jewelry (and, sadly, Lego), but nothing is going to top this new pure gold Gholdengo that Pokemon has just had made.
You can see the figure in the image above, which has been made by a Japanese gold products brand called SGC. It's been crafted from completely solid 24-karat gold, and it's not exactly the biggest thing in the world. It stands at a whopping 6cm and weighs just 15 grams, but even something that small is expected to sell for a whopping 1,540,000 yen, which is a little under $10,000.
If you want to see the more impressive version, SGC has also managed to craft a life-size gold leaf version of the statue at The Great Gold Exhibition in Japan at the end of the month, along with a Pikachu statue too. Apparently, according to Toy People News, the life-size statue took 700 sheets of gold leaf to make, so it understandably wont be available for the public to purchase.
Funnily enough, I would be terrified of owning anything that's 24-karat gold, not because of the inherent value, but because gold is a surprisingly fragile material. Drop that Gholdengo, and it won't look like a Gholdengo for much longer, and all you'll have is a gold pile of mush instead. That being said, I guess I'm not exactly the prime audience for a completely golden Gholdengo.
