The beer in the Lighthouse shop might seem like a strange thing to buy in a fishing game. It doesn’t exactly sound like something that would help with catching fish, but it actually plays an important role early in How to Fish. Players need it to complete one of the first quests in the game and get access to the next island. Here’s how to get beer and what to do with it in How to Fish.
Beer can be bought for $12 from the shop on the starting island. If you don’t have enough money, you can pick up some clams or catch some fish and sell them to the NPC sitting on the bench. You can then use the money you earn to buy the beer.
Beer is used to lure out the Spider Crab, the first boss in How to Fish. You will encounter it during a quest for the Lighthouse Keeper, who tells you that a large creature has been stealing his beer whenever he goes to sleep. After going without sleep for a week, he asks you to deal with the creature. He also explains that you can use a beer can to lure it out of the water.
Using the beer can as bait is the main reason you’ll want to buy beer in How to Fish. However, you can also drink the beer yourself to restore some of your health.
After buying the beer, take it to the Lighthouse Keeper so he can empty it. Walk up to him and hold Q to throw the beer can toward him. He will empty it almost immediately. Take the empty can and equip it to your fishing rod as a lure. Then cast your line into the water to catch the Spider Crab and start the boss fight.
