The first time I played through The Witcher 3, I barely gave a thought about which of the 5 signs to use. I reckon I was far too focused on swinging my swords and chugging bizarre concoctions to even notice.
Signs are just simple magic that Witchers can use after all, not exactly summoning huge storms and throwing lightning, right? With the right investment, Signs can be extremely potent. In the right hands, of course. Not every Witcher is a magical master!
While every sign has its use, some signs are arguably better than others. So let’s take a deep dive and see how to make the most of each one.
Yep, I’m sure most folks saw this one coming, but I really couldn't place Yrden anywhere else. If you haven’t used Yrden before, well, I don’t blame you.
When you activate this sign, you’ll notice a bunch of purple glyphs appear on the floor around you. When a monster steps into this sign, it will be slowed for a short duration. While this sign is pretty crucial when you’re fighting stuff like Wraiths, making them attackable, realistically, it just has very few use cases.
Because the circle is pretty small, if you enjoy dodging and kiting your enemies around, it’s pretty hard to make everything stay within that circle. You need to learn how to fight almost standing still, which is hard when many of your combos cause you to step towards enemies.
While Yrden can be pretty decent, you need to invest a massive amount of points into it to make it work. And at that point, you might as well just invest in another sign!
