The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting special editions and a new Switch 2 model. Unfortunately, if you are even remotely familiar with the gaming industry, then you know what comes next: they got scalped.
As we reported yesterday, scalpers are already trying to resell their pre-orders for the new Nintendo Switch 2 model, and the same is being done with pre-orders of the game itself, with listings popping up for the special editions with different covers. Now, fans are trying to do something about it, and it turns out that eBay's own rules could help them out.
This was kicked off by Reddit user franny1730, who shared their email inbox, showing how many listings they've reported. They claim to have reported hundreds, and they say eBay is actually taking them down.
Some are sceptical, but as others highlight, these scalpers are in breach of eBay's rules. Specifically, there is a rule against listing any item that you cannot physically send out yourself within 40 days of purchase. You can read eBay's presale rules here - it's pretty cut and dry. We are, in fact, 55 days away from Ocarina of Time Remake's release date, so this would very much be in breach of the rules.
With this in mind, please do not hand over $900 to a scalper for a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2. It is not worth it and will only feed into this problem that has infected the gaming space. Nintendo has already said that it will alert us when there's a restock, so you haven't lost out on your chance to get the new Switch 2 model just yet.
As for the special editions for Ocarina of Time Remake itself, I'm seeing a few listings for over $100. It is a shame to see that these have been bought out already, as you'd hope there would have been something in place to stop scalpers after all this time. The special editions in question are the foil cover and the N64-style slipcover, and sadly, these were in limited supply. There's no word on whether we'll get any more, given the demand.
