Moder is the boss of the Mountain biome in Valheim, and she can be hard to beat given the fact that she's a giant flying ice wyvern. Unlike the three previous bosses, Moder can fly, and since she's much more durable, players will also have to worry about maintaining their weapons and managing their ammunition mid-fight. There are a few tricks to making the Moder fight in Valheim easier, though, and we're here to share with you all the best tactics that have made this boss much easier for us.
The Wolf Fur Cape is a must-have when you're in any freezing biome. If you don't have a cape or refuse to use it for any reason, grab some Frost Resistance Meads instead. As far as I know, the Frost resistance provided by these items don't stack, so you only need to use one of them.
This Swamp-tier bow has a unique effect: any arrows fired from the Draugr Fang are imbued with Poison, causing hits to deal damage over time. Shooting Fire Arrows using the Draugr Fang causes Burn and Poison to affect the targets you hit, significantly increasing the damage-over-time effect and making each arrow more valuable than usual. Moder is weak to Fire damage, and at this point in the game, Fire Arrows are your only reliable source of it.
Bringing a melee weapon with you is never a bad idea, and for Moder, I recommend a Silver Sword because of the weapon type's fast attacks. Moder is neither resistant nor weak to any of the physical damage types, so you might as well go with one that hits fast and hard for whenever she decides to land.
Bring a Serpent Scale shield as well. You can make one using Iron, Finewood, and Serpent Scales. You'll need this to effectively block and parry Moder's melee attacks.
You can beat Moder with any armor set you like, so long as you don't get hit too much. Still, bringing the strongest suit you have will maximize your odds of survival.
A fully-upgraded Iron Armor set has the same defenses as a base Wolf Armor set, but without the Frost resistance from the cape and chestpiece. Meanwhile, the Root Set from the Swamps offers less protection, but it increases your Bows skill by 15, increasing your damage while improving your Draw Speed.
Serpent Stew is fantastic for this point in the game, though it can be a bit of a hassle to make. Grab a sturdy boat and a harpoon, then sail off into the ocean and wait for a sea serpent to attack. Harpoon it back to shore, beat it up, then turn it into stew by combining it with Mushrooms and Honey at a Cauldron.
