The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a remaster, as CD Projekt Red surprised attendees at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a trailer that confirmed it will arrive in late September as a free update. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will arrive over 11 years after the base version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hit store shelves.
Originally released in May 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the final chapter in the story of Geralt of Rivia. Alongside several free content updates, The Witcher 3 also launched two paid DLC expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, throughout 2015 and 2016. Though it has been on the market for over a decade, developer CD Projekt Red claimed in a quarterly earnings report that The Witcher 3 sold over 65 million units worldwide across multiple platforms.
CD Projekt Red confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be available as a free update for The Witcher 3 on Tuesday, September 29. The upcoming remaster will include the base game, the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, and a slew of graphical upgrades and features on multiple platforms. CD Projekt Red stated that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2 and on Blizzard's Battle.net storefront, so more players can experience one of the best open-world titles to date. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will include improved menu navigation and a revamp of the game's skill tree.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will also make balance changes to monster behaviors, meaning that players must stay on their toes when dealing with the creatures that plague the Northern Realms. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will also include support for upscaling technologies such as Nvidia DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will also feature cross-platform mod support and will be included in the Xbox Play Anywhere program. Some platform-specific changes will also be made for PS5 Pro and for Switch 2 users to peruse. Given that CD Projekt Red integrated DLSS into the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, it remains to be seen if The Witcher 3 will follow suit.

CD Projekt Red also gave fans a small glimpse of what fans can expect in The Witcher 3's third expansion, Songs of the Past. Following some teases about The Witcher 3's upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past will take Geralt to a new region called Letten, a land rich in folklore and festivals that hides a dormant darkness beneath. The expansion is said to be Geralt's last hunt before passing the torch over to Ciri, the protagonist of The Witcher 4.
However, CD Projekt Red was not done with revealing some surprises. The studio also confirmed that content based on The Witcher 3 will be added to Blizzard's action RPG Diablo 4 in a future update. More details about The Witcher 3's crossover with Diablo 4 will be revealed during BlizzCon on September 12 and 13.
