Gears of War: E-Day takes players back to the very day that the war with the locusts first broke out and the immediate aftermath. Despite being a prologue, the game offers up some new takes on the popular third-person shooter series, introducing new mechanics and characters to the mix and showing us a different side of the popular protagonists Marcus and Dom. As with any new game, players are likely wondering how long Gears of War: E-Day is, and how many acts and chapters there are to work your way through. I'll give you the answers to both of those based on my time with the game.
It took me just over 13 hours to beat Gears of War: E-Day in a single-player playthrough. For this playthrough, I was playing on normal difficulty and managed to find a majority of the collectibles according to the in-game War Journal. I have a 77% completion rating for the campaign with the following stats:
As those stats might suggest, I did spend a bit of time in the more open areas of the game trying to see and find everything I could do. In some instances, I knew that a collectible was nearby but couldn't find the exact location after searching for a good few minutes, so I gave up and moved on.
Based on my time in the game and knowing the size and complexity of the areas where I've missed most of these collectibles and side missions, I'd estimate that an additional 4-5 hours would be enough for players to get a 100% completion run on the campaign on normal difficulty.
There are five acts that make up the gameplay of Gears of War: E-Day, with a prologue and epilogue rounding out the story. Including the prologue and epilogue, there are 28 chapters that make up the game's story. I've broken these out by Act and named them all below.
Some chapter names may be considered spoilers by some players. If you'd rather enjoy the game spoiler-free, I recommend turning back now.
Each chapter varies in length, with some being much longer and making up the majority of an entire act and some being considerably shorter. However, from my experience, Acts 2 and 3 are the longest.
