Yesterday, dataminers uncovered and shared over 12 terabytes of internal builds and assets from Steam's old 2003 to 2013 storage, including early versions and details from Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, F-Stop, and even Half-Life 2: Episode Three. And while there's a lot of interesting and never-before-seen footage to unpack here, the internet being the internet, one thing keeps cropping up: GLaDOS thirst traps.
An early beta GLaDOS model was included among the leaks, showing a more obviously humanoid figure dangling from the ceiling. It's widely believed that her design was always meant to evoke the image of a woman bound against her will, though it has never been so obvious as this original model. Naturally, fans took the beta GLaDOS and rigged her to better match the, uh, curiosity core? And it's giving serious 'paint me like one of your French androids' vibes.
"Portal 2 beta got leaked and seeing that GLaDOS model [...] like oh my gawdd," X user and animator @QuietTomato posted to over 20,000 likes.
And then there are fans like @hlbs4life with such tasteful posts as, "Who up jerki"—I think you can figure out where that one was going. And with 3,000 likes and counting, and everyone commenting 'me', clearly a lot of Portal fans agree.
"FU** WHY THEY MAKE GLaDOS SLUTTY IN THE BETA," another post from @Sal_Predebut reads, which has also racked up 3,500 likes. Lotta robot lovers crawling out the woodwork, eh?
Discord, Reddit, X, it doesn't matter. The one thing that headlines 12TB worth of leaks, a datamine for the history books, is hot GLADOS. And it's not like Portal fans thirsting over their evil megalomaniac robot is anything new. This has just added fuel to the fire.
Sure, there's the infinitely more fascinating Portal 2 beta, paint gun, and old co-op build, not to mention the Counter-Strike Source version of Global Offensive or the string of Episode Three references that have just been found, but so far, GLaDOS with "a fat ass" eclipses all of that.
In all seriousness, as people dig deeper into the data, we're bound to pull back the curtain and learn far more about what makes Valve tick, and how the games we love came to be. But it goes beyond Valve, too. This is a Steam datamine, and there are already claims of Dragon Age: Origins pre-release builds, Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines betas, Mirror's Edge prototypes, and even Arkham Asylum beta content lurking in the files. GLaDOS is just the tip of the iceberg.
