It's not a stretch to call the Street Fighter 6 modding community one of the most talented in modern gaming, with their creations allowing fans to both dive into nostalgia and see new possibilities, something only made clearer by creator Mythic Noob's Chun-Li - Movie Inspired mod.
The project was made available by the modder via their Patreon page in late September and used Callina Liang's viral behind-the-scenes picture, where she showcased the full Chun-Li costume for the upcoming 2026 Street Fighter movie, as its inspiration.
But even if highly impressive and able to bring Liang's iteration to the game via a ''combination of outfits and modifications'', the mod's reach showcased one thing above all else: how CAPCOM might have dropped the ball in promoting the upcoming movie through the games.
If you are a Street Fighter 6 player, you might know what we are getting at, as one of the biggest complaints from both new and long-time fans lies in its slow release pace when the subject is outfits.
Don't get me wrong, we are not advocating for a Street Fighter 5-like approach, which saw waves upon waves of costumes, many of which weren't quite as well received.
Instead, the release of the film could have been a perfect way to both answer the community and get a healthy amount of cross-promotion via movie-inspired looks. Tickets could even offer fans the opportunity to get a movie skin for free if they are lucky, which could also boost the movie's reach and get newcomers to give the game a chance after leaving the theater.
Of course, that might actually be within the developer's plans, as during the company's Third Quarter Consolidated Financial Results Q&A Summary, representatives mentioned their intention to ''expand sales opportunities by aligning marketing initiatives with the film’s release.'' The thing is, it's hard to see something like this being implemented so close to the movie's premiere, even more so considering the work CAPCOM has already put into promoting it to both its core audience and those outside of it.
