World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is officially making another comeback, this time as the star subject of Blizzard's next Remix event. The limited-time return will mark the third such World of Warcraft promotion to date, following similar Remix events based on Mists of Pandaria and Legion.
Blizzard announced Wrath of the Lich King Remix during the World of Warcraft: What’s Next panel at BlizzCon 2026, saying that the event is currently planned to launch in summer 2027. Beyond that, the company has revealed virtually no other information about the rerun. There is no confirmed release date, event duration, level range, progression system, currency, reward list, class restrictions, raid schedule, or unique gameplay mechanic. The official BlizzCon 2026 recap dedicates but a single sentence to WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Remix, teasing that players will be able to "embrace the power of the Scourge." Blizzard officials have separately promised that more information on the 2027 event will follow in due time.
The relative lack of concrete details leaves World of Warcraft's previous two Remix events as the best indication of what fans can expect from Wrath of the Lich King in this format. Blizzard introduced the concept with the Mists of Pandaria Remix in 2024, allowing players to create dedicated characters and rapidly progress through an altered version of the 2012 expansion in search of powerful effects and collectible rewards. Those heroes were later converted into regular modern-WoW characters once the event ended. Legion Remix followed with another take on the format, again condensing an older expansion into a themed event with rapid progression.
Blizzard has so far treated Remixes as a conceptual framework that can change between iterations rather than a rigid ruleset. Looking at the slightly bigger picture, the approach underlines the developer's continued efforts to allow revisiting older parts of the game in modern World of Warcraft while simultaneously keeping such experiences reasonably fresh and maximally accessible.
The Wrath of the Lich King Remix carries added significance because Northrend is already set to play an important role in World of Warcraft again. The Last Titan, the newly announced third and final expansion in the Worldsoul Saga, will bring players back to the continent and revisit locations first explored extensively in WotLK. The upcoming Remix event will thus effectively give players another look at the older version of Northrend before the continent undergoes its next major transformation as part of the hit MMORPG's 12th major expansion, which is also due to debut in summer 2027.
