Who doesn't love a good tear-jerker? I know I do. You see, as someone who quickly became very sensitive to succumbing to his emotions at a young age, I find myself endlessly drawn to experiences that can move me or make me choke up a little. One of those experiences as a kid was watching Pixar's Up and immediately falling in love with Carl and Ellie's relationship; it practically became a staple of one of the most endearing love stories, despite the movie's adventurous tone for the rest of the runtime.

And suppose you wanted more of that; well, that's exactly where this beautiful little gem called Forever Ago comes into discussion. This is a debut project from Third Shift, and who better to lead the publishing than Annapurna Interactive? Forever Ago is an atmospheric adventure game that follows an old man on a cross-country road trip, promising new memories, new people, and a chance to make amends.

Most importantly, the premise strongly reminded me of Up and its subplot of Carl fulfilling Ellie's fleeting wishes. So, with the 30 minutes of this demo build, I've prepared a brief overview of what you can expect from a heartwarming tale like Forever Ago.

Third Shift has truly crafted something personal here. See, you play as Alfred, an old man who sets out on a road trip in his camper van, but it's quickly apparent that this isn't simply a trip for sightseeing. There's a reason he's on the road, and the further I got into the preview, the more curious I became about the life he's leaving behind. The preview threw me into a relatively secluded motel stop that I quickly left, and as soon as I got the gist of what was happening, it intrigued me about how it could pan out, especially with the trailer at the end.

Alfred is an old-timer trying to fulfill the final wishes of his dearest love, Audrey. She doesn't want Alfred to mope around and sulk away when she's gone from the world, so with a handful of tasks jotted down in his notebook, Alfie embarks on this quiet yet unanticipated trip to cherish the memories he's spent together with Audrey and possibly honor her last words. It's simple, I know, but see that's the beauty of it and the fact that I (literally) got to taste-test just the sample offered here.

Most importantly, the premise strongly reminded me of Up and its subplot of Carl fulfilling Ellie's fleeting wishes.

It's beautiful, for sure, but I have to warn anyone who may check this out that Forever Ago is a deliberately slow-paced game. It's like stating the obvious given the main character, but I figured it'd be worth mentioning that you'll be moving almost at a snail's pace. It's unclear whether there's a toggle to move a little faster, but since Alfred's no Max Caulfield or Joel from The Last of Us, I strongly suggest you have the utmost patience when you check this game out.
