Blood of Dawnwalker is now available, and one of the trickiest early quests in the game is titled Under Watchful Eyes.
In this quest, you’ll be tasked with freeing and escorting Mert the Miller, the captured rebel, out of the Military Camp.
This is an early-game quest and will be tougher than you might expect. You’ll have your equipment confiscated as you enter the camp if you don’t use a rear entrance, but you’ll need the Prison Keychain before that, and freeing Mert will alert every guard in the area.
This is a challenging quest for a reason, and you might need to use an Autosave to escape the area if you’ve already made mistakes. For everything you need to make this quest as simple as possible, follow our instructions below.
Freeing Mert is the easiest part of this task. The building Mert is being held in is being watched by the guard captain, a miniboss named Rayko the Incorruptible, and another guard outside of Mert’s prison cell. You can also enter the Military Camp via a rear entrance near the back of the tower, which will allow you to keep your weapons when entering, but you’ll need to enter the normal way, quietly steal the Prison Keychain, and open the door first.
When the guard captain upstairs isn’t looking, it’s very simple to take the Prison Keychain from the table at the rear of the room. The ‘Steal’ option will turn red when you are being watched. You can also loot the Prison Keychain from the guard downstairs once defeated.
That’s all you need to free Mert. If you do this at night, you can use Voracious Bite from Focus Mode to take out the guard downstairs quietly. If not, you should steal the sword that’s on the bench downstairs — though vampire claws can be stronger than sword options early on in the game. You can change your equipped weapon in the Inventory menu even while in combat, and you can change between unarmed and armed stances by pressing Square/X on the controller.
If you can’t take out the guard quietly, he’ll attack as soon as you free Mert. If you’re finding this section difficult, you should make a Quicksave whenever you exit combat, and ensure you’ve crafted proper healing items and aren’t just using food.
