A new leaked gameplay screenshot reveals what Ubisoft's canceled Project U would have looked like. The game had reportedly been in development for years before Ubisoft decided to shelve the project indefinitely.
Project U, also known as Project Pathfinder, was initially announced by Ubisoft in September 2022. Its original description defined it as a "session-based co-op shooter" that had players working together against a common threat. Shortly after, Ubisoft opened playtesting registrations for Project U for PC players in Europe, though the game was allegedly being developed for consoles as well. However, a report from early 2026 suggested that Project U was canceled for good. Now, a new leak has unveiled the game's potential HUD and gameplay details.
Twitter user Kran27_ leaked a screenshot of Ubisoft's Project U from their past playtesting experience. The leaker asked whether sharing the image would count as an NDA violation even though the game had already been canceled. Kran27's image shows off Project U's HUD, teasing details about its gameplay. As seen in the screenshot, players would have been able to shoot, use melee attacks, dash, and glide midair. Additionally, fans could use an Ability and even an Ultimate move. Other actions include healing and entering "Eagle View" mode. The leak also offers a glimpse of Project U's map, which may remind players of similar multiplayer maps from popular games such as Fortnite.

The screenshot reveals that the playable character had a cartoonish design as well, and players had leveling-up options. It is unclear whether the leaked HUD is from the 2022 playtest or from when Ubisoft rebooted Project U's development in 2024. Kran27's post already sits at over ten thousand likes, with many fellow players recognizing the canceled title. One user responded to the leak, saying that they had also played Project U in the past and, while it was a "cool concept," the game would feel repetitive after a few runs. It is worth noting that Ubisoft once removed a leaked Project U cinematic intro via DMCA, so Kran27's latest screenshot could suffer the same fate.
Lack of replayability was reportedly a major concern that prompted Ubisoft to restart Project U's development after five years of work, but the studio still saw potential in co-op shooters and did not immediately cancel it at the time. It was not until early 2026 that a leak revealed six canceled Ubisoft games, with Project U among them. Other titles that allegedly ceased development are Project Aether, which had been in the works since 2019, a WW2 extraction shooter named Project Crest, and two Assassin's Creed titles.
Project U is part of a growing list of shelved Ubisoft titles from recent years. The studio also confirmed the cancellation of a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake that started development in 2020. More recently, in September 2026, it was revealed that Nintendo canceled a new Ubisoft Legend of Zelda spin-off that would have had the famous antagonist Ganondorf as the protagonist.
