Three years ago, on January 20, 2023, in V-Jump Issue #3, Boruto Chapter 77 was published, and that was the last we saw of Naruto Uzumaki in the franchise crafted by Masashi Kishimoto and continued by Mikio Ikemoto.
Since then, quite a lot of time has passed, and Naruto Uzumaki still remains sealed away in the dimension of Daikokuten. Given the progression of the Boruto story, Naruto Uzumaki will not be unsealed anytime soon, but thankfully, the latest news concerning Naruto has confirmed his return on October 10, 2026. While Boruto is set to keep Naruto sealed away for quite some time, the Seventh Hokage is making a comeback with a new project, which is set to be unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026. This new project will revive the character of Naruto Uzumaki, and while fans await his comeback in the Boruto manga, he is going to be central once more this year.
It has been over three years since we have last seen Naruto Uzumaki in the story. The Seventh Hokage was sealed away by Kawaki, his own adoptive son, in Boruto Chapter 77, and nothing has changed since. In the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex sequel series, which began on August 20, 2023, Naruto Uzumaki has only made brief appearances through Kawaki. He has been glimpsed on a couple of occasions, suspended in a state of coma, but that is as far as his character role goes in this new sequel. While the Boruto series actively tries to work towards the return of Naruto Uzumaki, especially with the post-Mamushi arc, which is set to continue with the release of Chapter 37 on September 17, 2026, there are other projects that are going to bring Naruto back.

At New York Comic Con 2026, which is set to be held in October, Naruto Uzumaki is making an official return. His comeback is not going to be with some small project. In fact, both Masashi Kishimoto as well as Studio Pierrot have announced that this new project is going to be big. In fact, a countdown for this announcement has been put on the official website of Naruto, naruto-official.com, and this new project is one that is said to bring fans immense joy.
As to what exactly Naruto Uzumaki is returning with, we do not know, but fans can rest assured of the fact that they will once again see their beloved character in his full glory next month. Given that Naruto is the only series out of the big three that is not currently continuing, we could very well see either an anime remake or perhaps an anime side story focusing on the Seventh Hokage. Regardless, we are incredibly excited to welcome back Naruto Uzumaki once again after his three-year-long absence from the Boruto series. Naruto is an icon in the world of anime and manga, and his absence will always be felt.
Considering the fact that Naruto is getting a massive announcement on October 10 and the fact that there are other projects that are already underway, 2027 is shaping up to be the year of Naruto. For starters, the Boruto manga is going to continue strong into 2027, and with the return of Sasuke Uchiha on the horizon this year, the next year might bring back Naruto Uzumaki to us in the original storyline. Then, we have to remember that a new Naruto project is heading our way on October 10.
