In any game's development, there's always content that gets left on the cutting room floor. Perhaps the devs ran out of time to get something ready, or just decided the final game didn't need it. Whatever the case, traces of cut content can often be found in the game files, with fans even able to restore it if they have the know-how.
This is the case with Star Wars Zero Company, with a player finding evidence of scrapped missions in the game. Better yet, they've even managed to make these missions playable just days after launch, and have released them publicly if anyone on PC wants to give them a try.
Restored Operations by Nexus Mods user Cafiso adds four playable side missions into Star Wars Zero Company, which were partially finished and found in the game. While the textures are unfinished, the modder says the missions are perfectly playable.
"Four skirmish missions sit finished in the game files but were never registered in any mission table," Cafiso says. "This mod puts them back in the rotation. Two of them are on Courtsilius, a planet you will not find anywhere else in the game. The other two are on Anaxes.
"There is a reason they were cut: their environment art was never built. The maps have their gameplay and lighting layers only, so you fight on the raw greybox layout you see in the screenshots. That is not a bug and no mod can fix it - the art does not exist."
So, while they might be a little jarring to play, it sounds like they are fully functional. In that case, I would hazard a guess that they got quite far into development before getting scrapped. Perhaps the devs decided there were enough side missions as it is; indeed, I already missed out on a good amount during my first playthrough because all missions and operations are on a time limit, so these four might have only added to that pile.
In any case, it's impressive to see this content made playable so quickly. In fact, there are already 62 mods for Star Wars Zero Company at the time of writing, so it looks like the game has a good chance of amassing a strong modding community. That isn't too surprising when you look at PC player stats; Zero Company is a hit.
With that said, fans are definitely going to be after official new content. They're already making it known that they want Zero Company to receive ongoing support, rather than suffering the same fate as other Star Wars releases.
